How the trip to Koh Larn works

Koh Larn, often called Coral Island, lies just off Pattaya and is loved for its clear water and beaches such as Tawaen and Samae. No road connects it to the mainland, so a Bangkok to Koh Larn taxi really means two legs: our car takes you to Bali Hai Pier in South Pattaya, then you continue by public ferry or speedboat. Ferries generally run to Na Ban pier in the island’s village and to Tawaen Beach.

Many visitors stay in Pattaya and cross for the day; others spend a night or two on the island for a slower pace. Tell us which you are doing, as it decides whether we drop you at the pier or at a mainland hotel first.

Planning around the boats

The last ferries of the day leave in the afternoon or early evening, and schedules can change, so check the current times locally before you travel. Then work backwards: allow 2–2.5 hours from central Bangkok or Don Mueang, or about 1.5 hours from Suvarnabhumi, plus a cushion for traffic in South Pattaya. If your flight lands late, it is usually wiser to sleep in Pattaya and cross in the morning.

  • Larger cars for groups with luggage: Innova, Fortuner or van
  • Tolls and fuel included, pay the driver after the ride

Coming back from the island

Island accommodation is simple to reach, but your suitcases still have to be carried on and off a boat, so travel light where you can. For the trip home, decide which ferry you plan to catch back to Bali Hai and book a car from the pier to Bangkok or the airport with a sensible margin. Booking both directions of your Bangkok to Koh Larn taxi at once means a driver is waiting on the mainland when you step off the boat.
