1. Private taxi (door to door)
A pre-booked private taxi picks you up at the airport, your hotel or your condo and drops you at your door in Pattaya. It is the fastest and most comfortable option, especially with luggage, children or a group. The fare is fixed in advance: from THB 1,000 from Suvarnabhumi, THB 1,200 from central Bangkok and THB 1,400 from Don Mueang, per car.
Best for: airport arrivals, families, groups, travellers with bags, late-night trips.
2. Bus
Regular buses to Pattaya leave from Bangkok's Eastern Bus Terminal (Ekkamai) and the Northern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit), and there are airport bus services from Suvarnabhumi. The ticket is cheap, but you need to get to the terminal, follow the timetable and then take a local taxi or songthaew from the Pattaya bus station to your hotel.
Best for: solo travellers on a tight budget with light luggage.
3. Shared minivan
Shared minivans run between Bangkok and Pattaya and cost more than the bus but less than a private car. Space for luggage is limited and the van may stop to pick up and drop off other passengers.
Best for: budget travellers with a small bag.
4. Train
A slow train runs from Bangkok to Pattaya station, but there are few departures a day and the journey takes several hours. It is a scenic experience rather than a practical transfer.
5. Ride-hailing apps
Apps such as Grab or Bolt can take you to Pattaya, but the fare changes with demand and time of day, and a car big enough for your group and luggage is not always available. A fixed-price private taxi gives you the same comfort with a price you know before you travel.
Which should you choose?
If you are arriving at the airport, travelling with more than one suitcase or in a group, the private taxi is usually the best value for the time and effort saved. If you travel light and alone and have time to spare, the bus is the cheapest way.
